By bike we depart from downtown’s historicMarket Squareand ride over the ‘one of kind’Johnson Street bridge-it’s fourth rendition which is an artefactof both beauty and engineering thatwould fit right intoany great European city. The span connects us to the best angle of the city where we can take in the entire inner harbour to engage about the timeline of the city, why people love it here, in addition to spying kayakers, ocean walk-ways, and landing seaplanes which all make Victoria’s downtown one of the world’s most unique to behold.
We then take off along Wharf Street heading towards the neighbourhoods that are quintessentially Victoria followed by aquick stop at the parliament building, the anchor of our city and province. Then it’s onto James Bay where we learn about ‘The Mother of Modern Art inCanada,’and see buildings older than the country in which they were built.
Nestled close to downtown we connect to the beautiful Beacon Hill Park with protected forest lands, manicured gardens with bridges, fountains and wildlife to delight. There is always something beautiful to experience as you ride and take in the natural surroundings that are enmeshed with the city.
Upon exiting the park we are greeted by a totem pole which is tall enough to wave hello tothe Olympic Mountains off in the distance. It’s definitelyone of the best views from Victoria. Continuing on we stop by Government House, with it’s best in show gardens and views, ride into the Food Eco District where local leaders in sustainable food culture create some of Victoria’s best nighttime dining spots. And finally, we finish off in Victoria’s most famous neighborhood, historic Chinatown, with its winding, tiny alleyways and unique architecture with somethingalways around the corner to surprise and delight.
