Join us on our Get FED Tour to discover some of the best local, sustainable food Victoria has to offer!
Our foodie tour spotlights the restaurants and sustainable businesses that make up Canada's first Food Eco District. With the second highest number of restaurants per capita in North America, Victoria has an endless variety of unique dining experiences to choose from. On this tour, we will take you to 6 of Victoria’s top award-winning eateries including Big Wheel Burger, Pizzeria Prima Strada, Fin & Pearl (at Whole Foods Market), Olive the Senses, Be Love and Fishhook.
We begin in the heart of downtown Victoria, at the Hudson Public Market, where we will indulge our palates with a memorable tasting experience at Olive the Senses - an authentic olive oil and balsamic tasting bar.
We will then ride through the urban heart of Victoria, with a quick stop at the hidden gem that is the Fort Common, where we will try some fine offerings from two of our favourites - Be Love and Fishhook. Just across the street we will check out the Urban Learning Garden, a project-in-progress developed by FED as a community space and outdoor classroom to educate the public about sustainable food and urban agriculture.
From there, we will head to the quaint Cook St. Village and, while lounging in the boulevard gardens there, sample some traditional wood-fired, thin crust pizza from Pizzeria Prima Strada. We will follow that up with some tasty treats from Big Wheel Burger, Canada’s first ever carbon-neutral fast food restaurant! When we’re finished, we will cruise through Beacon Hill Park, Victoria’s largest and arguably most beautiful urban green space.
Towards the water and across the famed new Johnson Street Bridge, we will bike through Vic West and past Dockside Green (another of Victoria’s Eco Districts!). Here we will come upon the most awe-inspiring sight on the tour, the sprawling urban farm that is Topsoil, a farm-to-kitchen organization who transforms underutilized urban spaces to grow produce and supply Victoria restaurants with in-season produce, picked minutes before delivery.
Alongside the Gorge Waterway, we will continue on the epic Galloping Goose Trail. You’ve never seen anything like the Galloping Goose, established along what was once a railroad. The best of the city and nature intersect here, and the trail is teeming with life and beauty.
Our last stop is at Fin & Pearl at Whole Foods Market, where we can kick back on the patio and enjoy one last snack before heading back along the Goose to downtown.
**Bonus! Funds from this tour help support Victoria’s Food Eco District (FED), a non-profit that works to support sustainable food initiatives in Victoria’s downtown core and beyond.**
Bike rental & helmet, snacks & samples each stop along the way.
